December Tour & Other News
11.23.2007
Greetings. It's Friday night and my belly is full of potato soup, Tom Waits is on the iTunes and I'm taking a few minutes to let you all know about the upcoming tour and more.
-----------------------------
THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN, AND EASTWARD I GO:
A few weeks ago I put out a bulletin to see who wanted me coming to their town, drinking their whiskey and sleeping on their floor. I am so grateful for the number of replies I got. It was really surprising and awesome. The pattern that emerged as making the most sense this time around was for me to head east, but to all of those west of Indiana, I'm already making plans for a spring outing out your way. So put that whiskey up on the top shelf where Grandma can't get it. I'll be there soon to take care of it for you.
Dates and details are on the front page. Drop me a note and let me know if you're going to come hang out and get awesome.
Also, I'm still looking for a show somewhere between Fayetteville, TN and Bloomington, IN on Saturday, December 8th. So if you can help, let me know.

-----------------------------
DO YOU LIKE-A THE I-LIKE-A?
I just set up, poorly, an iLike page. I don't really get it, but its something to do with Facebook. So if you're into that, you can now add me there too. Or something.

------------------------------
OTHER INTERNET STUFF I'M NOT GOOD AT:
That reminds me. I have a Pure Volume page with no friends. If you want to more connected to me than my own mom, you can add me there too.

-------------------------------
THE NEW ALBUM:
I've been recording off and on for a while on the new album at Telegraph Media here in Bloomington. It's coming along nicely, and as usual my friends are coming out and making things awesome. Hooray for friends.

--------------------------------
IN CLOSING:
My little 16 year old dog Bondoogi got out of the yard the other day and was missing for about four hours before a nice lady found him and called my number on his tags. So if you see some dog running around and you have the time, check its tags and call the number. I guarantee somebody misses them, and they will love you forever for it.

Update
04.04.2007
Hello,
Just a quick update to let you know what's happening here at SLHQ. I'm back home in beautiful Bloomington, Indiana getting slowly murdered by allergies, but otherwise having a great time catching up with all my friends and family and their respective dogs.

I'm also staying busy writing and demoing some new songs for what I think will be a loosely themed e.p., that hopefully I will have available this fall.

Also on its way is the "Julianne" split 7" with William Elliott Whitmore. It's a concept 7" where each one of us tells our side of the story in a love triangle that ends tragically. You can check out my side of the story on my My Space page www.myspace.com/samlowry

If all the cards fall into place the moon aligns with the whatever, then I'll be hitting the road this summer. Dates and places coming soon, and as always if you want to help out with a show, don't hesitate to contact me.

And of course, if you haven't gotten around to picking up a copy of "Songs of My Enemy", you should because it kicks ass.

Thanks,
SL

AP MAGAZINE:
Alternative Press Magazine reviewed my album this month, which is pretty cool. They seem to like it ok. It's the one with Motion City Soundtrack on the cover if you want to pick it up.

STUFFING THE STOCKING WITH SONGS OF MY ENEMY:
Since the holidays are statistically the most depressing time of year, why not give the perfect soundtrack? You can get the CD at all the usual online places, or by visiting my friends at www.higherstep.com If you get if via Higher Step you're likely to get some bonus stuff from the label as they're nice guys like that.

2007 PREVIEW:
Here's a laundry list of things I'm working on for 2007.

  • split 7" with William Elliott Whitmore
  • February south/south-eastern tour
  • May European tour
  • a new E.P. by summer
  • completion of my first novel
  • becoming the first viking ninja
  • catching up on Scrubs seasons 3 and onward

IN CLOSING:
As always, thanks for caring enough to read this. I hope everyone has a good holiday, and hopefully I'll be rocking your local stage and sleeping on your couch in 2007.

Just wanted to drop a quick note and thank everyone who came out and showed love on the Lucero, Rocky Votolato, William Elliott Whitmore, Sam Lowry tour. Sadly last night in Sacremento was my last night on the tour, but it was a fantastic time and I'm lucky to be friends with such amazing musicians and human beings.

Other quick news in brief:

SONGS OF MY ENEMY - available digitally pretty much everywhere online now. iTunes and so on, or if you prefer a more physical, hands-on approach you can order the CD here from my page.

OFF TOUR, BUT ONE MORE SHOW - I'm off the road for a while, but will be opening for Murder by Death on October 21st at the Pilot Light in Knoxville, TN should you happen to be out that way round about then.

ON DOWN THE ROAD - William Elliott Whitmore and myself have started working on a collaborative 7", which will kind of be a traditional split-7" in some ways and in other ways won't be. I'm guessing it will come out spring or summer of 2007.

ON DOWN THE ROAD AND OVER THE POND - I'm going to be doing a DIY tour of Europe next year, probably in May. If you live in the UK or in the EU and can help out with a show, drop me a line.

Thanks again for your time and interest,

SL

Songs of My Enemy out tomorrow, shows with Lucero and more!
09.25.2006
Hello internet friends,
Hope you've all been well. Here's a couple of quick things for you to file away in the ole noggin.

TONIGHT!
My official hometown CD release show for "Songs of My Enemy" is this evening at 7pm at Landlocked Music. The show is free and will be opened up by Andy Storms, who is a great "ya'll-ternative" singer-songwriter and a straight up cutie pie. Landlocked is located at 314 S. Washington, Bloomington, IN.
If you buy the CD at this show you'll not only be supporting me, but also this great independent record store. Like killing two birds with one stone. But you know, killing in a good way. Like the two birds are terminally ill and suffering and you're some kind of aviary Dr. Kevorkian. Like that.

SONGS OF MY ENEMY!
The "Official" release date is tomorrow, but there seems to be some lagging with the digital distributor so you may not be able to buy it on iTunes and Rhapsody and all those places for a few days. Sorry about that.
However, you can of course buy it at a show, Landlocked Music, or by pre-ordering it by clicking on the little thing over there to the right, which is better because then you can see the awesome artwork done by Ben Bussell.

LUCERO, WILLIAM ELLIOTT WHITMORE AND ROCKY VOTOLATO!
I'm incredibly excited to be opening the first three shows of the Lucero, Whitmore, Votolato tour. Get there early (to see me) and plan on staying late (to get awesome).
09/27/2006 08:00 PM @ Mad Planet - 533 E. Center St., Milwaukee, WI 53212
09/28/2006 08:00 PM @ The Maintenance Shop - ISU Memorial Union Room 005, Ames, IA 50011
09/29/2006 08:00 PM @ Triple Rock - 629 Cedar Ave. S, Minneapolis, MN 55404
Hope to see some of you out there.

SHOUTOUTS:
Thanks so much to everyone I've met in the past couple of weeks while out on my CD release tour, and special thanks to Murder by Death, the Appleseed Cast, Unwed Sailor, Lee Miles, Them Damn Kids and all the venues and promoters for giving me the chance to do my thing.
I know that kind of sounds like sucking up or whatever, but it's really pure unadulterated ass kissing, which is totally different. No, seriously, when you're small time like me, every single person who digs you or helps you out means a lot. And I am extremely thankful to each and every one.
Thanks,
SL

A Return to the Exile Suite
09.04.2006
Hello, and welcome to the newly refangled exilesuite.com

Thanks to Bob at Zero Echo Media for the new spiffication, and thanks to you for checking it out. Here's what's cracking.

SONGS OF MY ENEMY
Hard to believe, I know, but my fourth album Songs of My Enemy finally comes out in a few weeks, on September 26th. You can get it via Higher Step Records at www.higherstep.com or at one of the upcoming shows. It features Adam and Sarah from Murder by Death, Troy and Megan from Duraluxe, Kate Long from Early Day Miners, Ben Bussell (ex-Mt. Gigantic), Erika Oliphant (Air Tight Garage), Nathaniel Seer, Kit Malone.com and Bob from HSR's mom. Oh, and I'm on it a little too. You can check out a couple of songs from it on my music player doohickey thing.

TOUR WITH MY FRIENDS
I'm hitting the road to promote the new album, and starting things off with a very nice run opening for Murder by Death, the Appleseed Cast and Unwed Sailor (see the tour section for details) and will continue on with a few more weeks of shows throughout the midwest visitng my usual haunts and quite possibly a few more dates opening for some of my other more famous friends. Stay tuned for those, to be posted soon.

WHY YOU WILL BE TOPLESS THIS FALL
I had it in the works to have a new line of Sam Lowry tees ready for this tour, but the (second!) complete death of my van (see last blog) has caused a rerouting of funds to keep me on the road and to keep you from getting a farmer tan. Hopefully we'll have some cottony goodness for you in a few months.

SPEAKING OF MY VAN
It sucks balls. Next subject.

IMAGES FLICKERING ACROSS THE BANDWIDTH
HSR and I are undertaking an ambitious project that we would like you to be a part of. We would like to have a video for every song on the album. We stole this idea from Sparklehorse, who did a similar thing and made it into a special on IFC for their album "It's a Wonderful Life". The results were beautiful and we love Sparklehorse and have no problem stealing from those we love, so if you are a filmmaker or always wanted to be and would like to be involved in the project, than drop me a line. We will feature a different video on my My Space page and homepage every month and will be releasing them to YouTube.com and all those kinds of sites, with full credit to everyone involved.

IN CLOSING
Come see me on tour. It's been a while, I'm playing with some great bands, and frankly it'd be nice to see you. Buy the album. It's the best thing I've ever done, and I do pretty awesome things on a daily basis. Just ask my dogs.

Thanks,
SL
